Artist's Statement
Diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2013, I have undergone removal of body parts, loss of hair, and 7 rounds of chemotherapy. These experiences have inspired this exhibition about memory and loss. With the knowledge of my own genetic mutation fueling the growth of cancer cells, I began exploring ideas of energy synapses’ from the brain to the body on a cellular level, questioning the possibility of mutations and disconnect. I use imagery and texture to communicate the body dysmorphia, suture scars, and amnesia.
